“This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.”
Luke 22:19
At the Last Supper, Jesus instituted both the sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and Holy Orders. The Catholic priest is ordained by a bishop whose lineage goes back to the Last Supper through apostolic succession. The Church lives the command of Jesus to "Do this in memory of Me" through the priesthood. The priest, though a frail and sinful human, is empowered by the Holy Spirit to become an instrument of God's grace through the sacramental life of the Church. He stands "in persona Christi."
Please pray for our priests, for young men to be open to God's call, and for the sanctification of all priests!
One Sunday afternoon a month (3-4:30pm), Fr. Joseph leads a discussion of the spiritual life, priesthood, and discernment followed by sung Vespers (evening prayer) in church. It follows an informal format driven by questions and answers rather than a defined topic each week. These gatherings are simply a way to learn more about growth in holiness and how to ask the question in prayer to see if God is calling you. If you are interested in attending, please email Fr. Joseph at [email protected] (your email will be forwarded to Fr. Joseph) with any questions, as well as your basic information (name, age, school, grade, email, and phone number).
