“Parish Nursing is the specialized practice of nursing that focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the promotion of holistic health and the prevention of illness in the faith community. (Catholic Parish Nurse Brochure)
The Parish Nurse is a Registered Nurse who encourages the individual’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being in relation to God, family, neighbor, and church community. The ministry serves the church community through education about lifestyle, attitudes, faith and wellness. Personal health counseling, parish and secular community referrals, and a confidential listening presence are also provided to individuals and their families.
The Health Care Advisory Board, made up of parishioners from the medical field and representatives from the senior population of the parish, assists the Parish Nurse with identifying and sponsoring health-related activities, and new programs that focus on a variety of medical and psychological needs.
Sharon Pero has been Holy Family’s Parish Nurse since the program’s inception in February, 2006.
Sharon visits parishioners in their homes, at nursing homes, and hospitals as well as through telephone contacts. She provides information in response to personal health concerns and assists people in connecting with community resources or parish volunteers to provide supportive care to family members through our C.H.A.M.P.S. She facilitates the connection between parishioners in need of assistance and parishioners willing to provide assistance. As a member of the Health Care Advisory Board she provides wellness programs and information to the parish.
