DSS stands for Digital Speech Standard, a high-compression file format from Olympus used for voice recording and sending voice files over the internet. DSS format files are about 1/5th the size of MP3 files so they are much faster to download, but they cannot be played by most standard MP3 players. The DSS files found on this site can be played using the free DSS Player Lite application from Olympus. A link to the Olympus software download page is provided below.
